Every university does this differently.

NMU Applicant Score (AS)

NMU does not use a 1-7 level-based APS at all - its Applicant Score (AS) sums your best six subjects’ raw percentages (not achievement levels), excluding Life Orientation, out of 600. Applicants from quintile 1-3 schools who score 50%+ in Life Orientation get a 7-point bonus, which we do not add - so our number can only undersell, never oversell, a qualifying applicant.

This score means nothing at another university – it can’t be compared with any other university’s.

What we couldn’t confirm

Most of the faculty guides behind these programmes are dated 2024 (apparently the 2025 intake) and are not confirmed as current for 2027. The quintile 1-3 Life Orientation bonus is not modelled; we show the base AS, which is never higher than a student’s true score.

Follow-up pass: 16 programmes captured from official faculty "UG Guide" PDFs and department pages, putting NMU_AS (the 0-600 Applicant Score formula, structurally different from every other university here) to real use for the first time. Most of these guides are dated/closing in 2024, apparently governing the 2025 intake rather than confirmed-current for 2027 - NMU appears to roll the same structure forward annually, but treat figures as "last confirmed" rather than "2027-verified". The quintile 1-3 Life Orientation bonus (+7) is not modelled - we show the base score only, which undersells rather than oversells a qualifying quintile 1-3 applicant. Bachelor of Education (3 distinct streams) and the general BSc streams (Computer Science etc.) were found by qualification code but could not be confirmed to a primary-source admission figure - deliberately left out. Three genuinely 2027-labelled faculty guides (Science, Education, Health Sciences) were located but not yet read - the starting point for the next NMU pass, which should also confirm whether the 2024-sourced figures above still hold.

RESOLVED 2026-10-03 for the rows checked: the user supplied a current NMU "Z-Card" - a compact, per-programme admissions summary distinct from the faculty UG Guides nmu-pass-2 was built from - letting Architecture, Nursing, BCom (Computer Science & Information Systems), LLB, and the Civil/Industrial/Marine Engineering diplomas all be raw-confirmed exactly, with Nursing additionally gaining a confirmed 4-year duration (previously null) and a newly-found Extended Curriculum route (5 years, AS 330/345). Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, BIT, BCom Law/BA Law and the remaining BCom streams were not individually re-checked this pass - still resting on the older, dated-2024 UG Guide tier, and still the starting point for whatever NMU pass comes next. Added 4 new rows the Z-Card fully details, each with an existing career fit: BSc Construction Economics/Construction Management (quantity-surveyor, two streams sharing one AS/subject profile), BEd Intermediate Phase (teacher - NMU previously had no BEd row at all; a BEd Senior Phase & FET also exists across several subject-combination streams, not added separately), Bachelor of Health Science in Biokinetics (sport-scientist), and BCom Industrial Psychology & Human Resource Management (industrial-psychologist - NMU also offers a lower-AS BAdmin/BA route to the same outcome, not added separately).
